Nevada 8-hour Traffic Course Practice Exam

When you encounter a pedestrian crossing at an intersection, yielding and allowing them to cross is not only the safest choice but also the legal requirement in most jurisdictions, including Nevada. Pedestrians have the right of way in crosswalks, and as a driver, it is your responsibility to ensure their safety by stopping and allowing them to pass unimpeded. This action promotes safety for both the pedestrian and yourself, fostering an environment where everyone can navigate the roads more safely.

The other options suggest actions that could endanger the pedestrian. Speeding up could lead to a dangerous situation and increases the risk of an accident. Honking may startle the pedestrian, potentially causing them to hesitate or act unpredictably. Ignoring a pedestrian while turning is particularly hazardous, as it implies that you are not paying attention to road users who have the right of way. Following the correct protocol by yielding creates a safer experience for everyone involved in the roadway activities.
